Genialt ferietips for sanne bensinhoder

Bare så det er sagt – evenemanget er svært populært og årets utgave er utsolgt. Men til saken, det er så enkelt som at britene er noen racere i å organisere event som inneholder alle aspekter av bil. Og blant disse rangerer Goodwood helt i toppen. Festival of Speed som arrangeres nå er en egen variant med et eksotisk og seervennlig bakkeløp, i forhold til Goodwood Revival som er tradisjonelt løp på bane som arrangeres i september. Felles for begge er at de samler de mest fantastiske bilene på kloden, av både gammelt og nytt. Ja da, vi vet at det samles mye gromt på Old Timer´en på Nürburgring, Le Mans klassisk, Pebble Beach og så videre. Men ingen har den ville løypen som FoS med innlagte krumspring av deltakerne.

I motsetning til de mangfoldige (og ofte veldig fine) eventene som arrangeres på amatørnivå i England, er Goodwood til de grader inne i varmen hos «alle som betyr noe». Det vil si at fabrikkene stiller med både eldre klassikere og splitter nye superbiler – ført av kremen blant fortidens og dagens løpsførere. Faktisk virker det som de står i kø for å være med. Videre har de grepet på samlerne av de mest verdifulle og sjeldne bilene, som gjerne dukker opp i et stort antall. FoS er kort og godt mekka for den som tar seg bryet med å ta turen.

Eventet pleier å avholdes i midten av juli og kalles «the largest motoring garden party in the world». Det betyr at det hele foregår innen hyggelige rammer uten å bli alt for snobbete – det er biler som er i fokus. I år vil det dukke opp et nytt element som skal forsere den kurvfulle løypen på 1,8 kilometer. For første gang i historien vil en «robotbil» det vil si selvkjørende bil delta. Det er Roborace som er konstruert av Daniel Simon. Vi vet også at det vil bli en parade med Land Rover i anledning av 70-årsjubileet.
